20 years of reign of Prince Albert II:
Monaco celebrates a journey of commitment and transformation
On 19 July, the Prince's Palace Square was transformed into a real stage of celebration on the occasion of the 20 years of reign of H.S.H. Prince Albert II. In front of an enthusiastic crowd of Monegasques, surrounded by his family, the Prince gave a speech imbued with sincerity and pride: "We are a community, a big family", he insisted, insisting on the main lines of his commitment – modern urban planning, economic progress, social solidarity and international influence.
A discourse focused on unity and the future
With humour, he recalled: "It's not every day that you turn twenty... especially at sixty-seven", before stressing that his motivation remains intact after two decades. He urged Monegasques to overcome fractures, not to pay attention to passing quarrels and to celebrate the chance to belong to this small, united state.
A monumental cake: 250 kg of delicacy
The icing on the cake – or rather 10,500 macaroons! An insane wedding cake, created by six chefs from the Fairmont Monte-Carlo, with:
To applause, the Prince cut off a slice, validating the tasting with a thumbs up. The friendly atmosphere continued with Princess Caroline, Princess Charlene and the royal children sharing a moment of gourmet complicity.
The mayor testifies to Monaco's transformation
Georges Marsan, Mayor of Monaco, also took the floor to salute these twenty years of progress. He recalled the significant events of the reign: the Prince's wedding, the birth of Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, as well as Prince Albert II's early commitment to the environment, particularly through his polar expeditions. He drew a parallel between these initiatives and the demographic growth of the Principality – which now has nearly 10,000 Monegasques, more than 2,100 more than twenty years ago.
Towards the future, inspired by tradition
The joint message from the Prince and the Mayor was clear: Monaco must remain focused on the essentials – ecology, prosperity and solidarity – while remaining faithful to its history. The ceremony ended with a burst of energy: "Viva i Principi! Viva i Munegaschi! Viva Mùnegu!", proclaimed by the mayor, summing up a palpable national pride.
